Are You Ready to Learn How to Build Calf Muscles?
Health / Fitness / Bodybuilding & Weight Loss
There is this big misconception that leg muscles aren’t worth a dime when you are bodybuilding. This is the reason why so many people concentrate on only on their upper bodies when working out. But if you think about it, the legs (including the calf muscles) form one half of your body.
If you don’t do the necessary work to develop your leg muscles, you are going to end up looking like Johnny Bravo (if you know the cartoon character). Johnny has huge chest muscles and rippling biceps and triceps; however, his legs are disproportionately tiny compared to the rest of his body.
Of course, you will not literally look like Johnny Bravo, but you probably are getting the idea of what we mean by proportion when it comes to developing your muscles. Now, it is important that you start working on your calf muscles, because strong calf muscles can actually help you lift bigger and heavier weights.
The calves also support your body when you are on the treadmill or bike. Well-defined calf muscles are also unbelievably sexy; if you don’t believe us, check out how professional bodybuilders pose when they are onstage. They don’t turn around just to show off their back muscles to the judges. They’re twisting and turning to show off their leg muscles, too.
If you are a member of a gym, you can get a good calf workout by using a stationary bike (avoid recumbent bikes), the Stairmaster, or by walking briskly on a treadmill that has a good inclined angle. All of these cardio exercises challenge the calves, and make them really strong, too. You will feel the change after a few weeks: your legs will become leaner, and those rock-hard calf muscles will begin to show.
If you have access to a squat rack, you can perform weighted calf raises. Weighted calf raises are more effective if you can place half of your feet on a small, elevated surface, so that your toes are higher than your heels.
Place the barbell on your back, and lift your body weight so that your heels become level with the rest of your feet (which are on a slightly elevated surface). With a single movement you will begin to feel your calves reacting to the force of gravity and your own weight.
Now, working out is very important, but not as important as eating right. In addition to phasing out empty calories, fat, and salt, you also have to invest in a reputable protein supplement that will help nourish your growing muscle tissues.
One of the most effective protein supplements on the market today is Muscle Max. Muscle Max features six unique active ingredients that will help increase your endurance in the gym while progressively improving your body’s natural ability to burn fuel (glucose) and build lean muscle mass. And what is really amazing about Muscle Max is that Nutralabs Ltd. (the manufacturer) made sure that they included only rigorously tested ingredients into the mix to make it doubly effective.
