These bark collars are extremely useful, especially in the United States where it is common for people to get in trouble with local animal control and other similar departments when pets are deemed by neighbors as being “out of control.”

You may even have been in the position where a neighbor suddenly called animal control because of your dog’s incessant barking, without even talking to you about the issue.

If you are tired of meeting with animal control representatives, and would like to have a better relationship with your neighbors, and all other people in your surroundings, it might be a good idea to decide on what kind of dog bark collar would be best for your dog.

Aversive Dog Bark Collar Comparison

There are many kinds of aversive collars that can be used on a pet dog. Here are some examples:

Choking chains – As the name implies, this type of collar tightens around the neck of the dog. It is often used in emergency cases, where the dog has become extremely violent and is trying to injure someone. The collar is placed near the ear region and can tighten extremely well, if the need arises.

Pinch collars – Pinch collars are equipped with metal prongs that exert pinpoint pressure on the skin around the neck. When a pinch collar is used on a dog by a dog trainer, the dog feels discomfort around his neck. Theoretically, this will stop any negative behavior from escalating. If used improperly and too often, a pinch collar can cause injury, because the prongs are made of metal.

Shock collars – This is the most popular aversive collar on the market, because it delivers a swift form of discipline and/or punishment to misbehaving dogs. Electricity flows through shock collars, and is released upon the animal remotely through a separate control unit. Some shock collars can also be triggered by “electric fences,” or remote control units that are placed around a specific perimeter.

When the dog crosses the perimeter, a shock current is released that immediately corrects the dog’s behavior. This is called pet containment, and is very popular with professional trainers and regular dog owners alike.

Shock collars can also be used to stop excessive barking, if this is the problem, and thus it is categorically a bark collar, too. It stops behavior immediately, so it can be effectively used to correct bad behavior that is repeatedly performed by the animal in different situations.

Now, it is very important that you do not shock your dog (even if you can) on a whim or for every small mistake or transgression. If you do, the shock collar’s effectiveness will soon wane, and your dog may continue to exhibit the unwanted behavior, despite being shocked again and again. Use it only as a training tool, and never as a device used for “getting back” at your dog for his mistakes.

Also, learn to time your shocks properly. The shock should be administered the moment the behavior presents itself, so that the lesson not to perform that specific behavior sinks in quickly and permanently.

Bark collars is an efficient way to neutralize unwanted dog barking and bad behavior at times when you want and need to control your beloved dog.
