Reiki Healing Hands: Are They Real?

Health / Alternative Natural Healing

When people see a reiki healing session for the first time, they usually notice how the reiki practitioner/reiki master uses his hands most of the time to apply pure ki or energy to his client. Dubbed “reiki healing hands”, people are often confused as to how exactly reiki works. Do reiki practitioners have blessed or special hands? Can they work without moving their hands over a person? Today’s discussion will clarify and correct any general misconceptions that people may have regarding reiki healing.

Reiki Healing Touch

Why do reiki masters or practitioners use their hands so much?

Reiki practitioners, or higher-level reiki masters, use their hands to channel ki or universal, subtle energy to the person who is receiving the healing session.

Since the skin on the hands are naturally sensitive to subtle energy and changes in temperate, etc., reiki practitioners also use their hands as a “reiki energy scanner”, much like a CT scan, x-ray machine, or a doctor’s stethoscope.

Ki can actually be channeled through any part of the body… However, it would be difficult for a reiki practitioner to use other appendages (such as his feet or shoulders) to perform reiki healing.

Why does a reiki practitioner place his hands over different parts of the body?

Reiki healing takes place when a practitioner/master is able to focus and channel ki to different regions of the body. Each region of the skin on the outside has a corresponding internal organ inside.

Then you also have joints, muscles, and other connective tissues inside that will also benefit from reiki healing. A reiki practitioner may place his hands over a combination of areas to help treat maladies, such as asthma and rheumatism.

Is reiki a religion?

Reiki is a spiritual practice, not a religion. Each person has his own way of satisfying the needs of his spiritual self. Reiki just happens to be one way of doing it. The big difference between reiki and the spiritual practice that you have developed yourself is that reiki is geared towards physical relaxation and holistic healing (mental, spiritual & emotional).

Do reiki practitioners have to touch my skin during a reiki session?

In most cases reiki practitioners will lightly touch the surface of your skin as they channel ki. However, if you are not comfortable with this, then simply ask the practitioner not to touch your skin. Reiki practitioners can adjust their healing method accordingly.

Do I have healing hands as well?

Yes, everyone has the potential to become a great reiki practitioner. You only need to learn how to attune yourself to the Source, and you can begin channeling ki yourself. Some local organizations offer First Degree Reiki Training for people who wish to formally study reiki self-healing.

If you want to become a reiki practitioner, or someone who can perform reiki on another person, you will need to complete the requirements of Second Degree Reiki Training. If you wish to take it further and you would like to teach others how to use reiki, then simply take an advanced course (Third Degree Reiki Training) to become a reiki master.

A reiki master is qualified to perform reiki on another person, and he will also have the right set of skills to teach and elevate First Degree practitioners to Second Degree practitioners.
