How to Cure Psoriasis Fast

Health / Remedies

Individuals who are diagnosed with psoriasis often think of the future: how they will cope with the disease, how to cure psoriasis and how exactly they will be able to manage the symptoms. Image Credit/Image License: CC0 Public Domain.

Many psoriasis patients also ask if there is a cure that will actually beat back the most persistent symptoms of the disease. If we look at the existing medical literature on psoriasis, we will learn that psoriasis does not have an absolute, empirical cure.

Like the cure for the common cold, the cure for psoriasis has eluded the grasp of conventional medicine. But do not despair; this does not at all mean that you are helpless when it comes to this skin condition.

Psoriasis Treatment – Important Guidelines

This just means that we have to be more vigilant in terms of managing it, so it doesn’t get out of hand. Here are some important guidelines that will help you cure your psoriasis through the intelligent management of it’s symptoms:

1. Moisture is your best defense against itchiness and skin flaking. Psoriasis can be a burden, because it triggers the accelerated growth of patchy skin. If you apply moisturizing agents, like emollients, psoriatic plaques will remain supple, and while the itch may not completely disappear, you will feel less inclined to pick at your plaques.

2. Natural sunlight is composed of different wavelengths of light, including ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B. Short, yet frequent, exposure to natural sunlight may help reduce flare-ups, and is also good for your overall health because sunlight triggers the production of vitamin D in the body.

3. Thick, crusted skin is commonly found on top of psoriatic plaques. These may be removed safely once they are adequately softened by emollients and moisturizers. Do not try to remove the crusted skin by picking at it all day long!

Peeling after moisturizing is your best recourse, and be sure to stop if you feel that the skin is becoming raw because of what you are doing. If in doubt, consult with your dermatologist; he will tell you how to do it without harming the skin underneath.

Removing crusted skin will enhance the effects of any topical agents that may be prescribed by your doctor to address the inflammation and accelerated skin growth in affected areas of your skin.

4. There is no guarantee that all of the known treatments for psoriasis will work for you. You may have to shift from one treatment to another, depending on how your skin actually reacts to the treatments.

Be patient and know that, eventually, the best treatment will be discovered. It just takes time and some hard work to get to that point. Financially, you may have to spend a bit of cash, because treatments, like UV therapy, are performed in a doctor’s clinic, and they do cost money.

5. Take better care of yourself, inside and out. Stress can destroy your body (not just your emotional wellbeing) so manage it well. Eat as if your body is a sacred temple. Avoid polluting it with processed foods, sodas, and other artificial goop. Fresh vegetables, fruits, and organic meats are the orders of the day. Make them a priority on your grocery shopping list, always.
