The main difference for works on the oil rigs is that the network is always devoted to the extraction and digging for crude and black gold oil. There is also the opportunity to extract natural gas. You may have read on the internet or heard from people about oil rig jobs but it’s not always the truth. Before you start believing the tales about the oil rig jobs salary, you need to know about their positions.
There are a number of factors that affect the salary on an oil rig job. Those with previous experience or the right skill sets will earn much more than those looking to get onto an oil rig for the first time. Those who have more of a direct impact on the operations will also earn more.
A driller with three years experience can be hired as the chief driller and earn between $40,000 and $55,000 per year and that doesn’t include the allowances and bonuses. However, cooks, floorhands and other entry-level jobs will earn about $20,000 per year due to the level of experience and the fact that the work is easier and there are less duties and responsibilities.
To earn the higher incomes, you will need to be willing to endure the physically demanding work. You will usually have to operate and handle the heavy machinery, unless you have the opportunity to be a manager.
There is a common view of oil workers. How many of you have thought about the workers covered in oil and dirt? This isn’t actually what most will experience while working. You will also need to work a lot of hours – usually around 80 hours per week – and will spend time away from your family. If you are not happy with that then this isn’t an industry for you.

- Scaffolder – $40,500 per year.
- Radio operator – $42,000 per year.
- Control room operator – $45,000 per year.

- Subsea engineer – $45,000 per year.
- Roustabout – $45,000 per year.
- Drill crew – $47,000 to $55,000 per year.
- Instrument technician – $55,000 per year.
- Medic – $60,000 per year.
- Mudman – $66,000 per year.
- Chief electrician – $84,000 per year.
- Installation manager – $90,000 per year.
- Company man – $120,000 per year.
