Having radiant, white skin is a big goal for many men and women across the globe. With so many misleading advertisements and shady whitening products on the market today, it is imperative that people become aware of the most effective techniques for whitening the skin.

In addition to recognized pharmaceuticals, you should also be aware of more natural remedies that work just as well as commercial whiteners. The choice of which to use is completely up to you.

However, if you have an existing skin condition, such as psoriasis, it is best to consult with your dermatologist before starting any skin whitening regimen. This way, you will not inadvertently make your skin’s general condition worse by using products that are contraindicative of the current state of your skin.

Here are some great skin whitening tips to get you started on the right track:

1. The first thing that you should take into consideration when examining your skin’s general hue is your weight. This may come as a surprise to many people, but weight actually has a huge impact on a person’s skin.

Generally speaking, people who are overweight or obese have a higher risk of developing dark patches of skin, especially around the neck, on the elbows, etc. Doctors recommend weight loss to control the darkening of the skin in certain areas of the body.

2. Regular, natural exfoliation is a must if you want to sustainably whiten your skin. You see, the skin just beneath the surface is almost always lighter, so if you gently exfoliate your skin, it is going to be lighter because new skin will be revealed.

You can try gentle exfoliating agent like papaya soap (if you like all-natural) or you can stick to your tried and tested brand. Just make sure that the exfoliating agent you are using is gentle on the skin – if it isn’t, your skin is going to age faster than you’d like.

3. Light skin will not be attractive if your skin is plugged with oil and dirt. Regular soap is often not enough to remove built-up oil on the skin. In order to get really good results when you wash your face and neck, you have to use cleansers that have active ingredients, such as glycolic acid and tea tree oil.

These active ingredients are considered the super stars of skin renewal because they get the job done without harming the skin. Of course, things are best done in moderation, so avoid overdoing cleansers as well. The same applies to skin care products such as toners and pore minimizers; they should be only used a few times a week tops, and never every day.

4. Regular skin renewal and normal cellular turnover are both dependent on your chosen lifestyle and diet. If you want your skin to look good, you have to be healthy on the inside, too. Both vegetables and fruits are excellent for keeping the skin clear of blemishes. Believe it or not, eating a salad with a variety of vegetables can be one of the best things you can do when you are whitening your skin.
